Bee Memorial Fund
The Bee Memorial Fund is held at St. Bartholomew's in memory of Bee — Abbott Lee Butler — who died in 2021 at the age of eighteen.
Bee was an artist, a writer, and a maker of films, and was nonbinary. On lined paper, with flowers pressing in from every margin, she wrote that the flowers had bloomed in the empty, broken spaces of a heart — until the heart not only healed but grew, and the garden flourished on its own. Gifts made here tend that garden.
The Fund supports the ministry of The Remembering Way, a nonprofit corporation founded by the Rev. Elizabeth Lightfoot Jameson, an Episcopal priest and Bee's mom. Its work — circles, teaching, writing and a podcast — is the transformation of consciousness: a different way of being human, and of being human together, and the discovery of a joy that changes everything. It begins in a person and does not stay there. What changes in one of us changes what we are able to make with each other, with our communities, and with the earth.
Gifts to the Fund hold a place for someone who could not otherwise take part, and they build what will let the work go on beyond any one person.
St. Bartholomew's receives and holds gifts to the Fund and sends the tax letter for your records; The Remembering Way sends its own letter of thanks, in the same envelope.
The church does this without charging a fee — nothing is taken out for the holding. It is a significant gift to this ministry, gratefully received.
If you are curious about the work itself — the circles, the writing, the podcast — you are welcome to look: therememberingway.org.
